MANILA, Philippines - Currently on view until June 5 at the Trade Hall of Gateway Mall, Araneta Center, Quezon City is “Festival” featuring the works of the University of the Philippines (UP) Centennial Artists.
Participating artists are National Artist Jose Joya, Jr., Jess Abrera Jr., Mar Bongalon, Hoche Briones, Angel Cacnio, Ferdie Cacnio, Michael Cacnio, Alfred Capiral, Romy Carlos, Carlos Castro, Cris Cruz, Cheloy Dans, Denes Dasco, Raul Dayao, Bert Duldulao, Tessie Duldulao, Nonoy Gamboa, Ding Hidalgo, Ben Infante, Pete Jimenez, Aileen Lanuza, Bing Changco-Libatique, Romi Mananquil, Norlito Miemban, , Vincent De Pio, Myrna Reyes, Tito Roy, Jonahmar Salvosa, Pyt Santos, Lenore R.S. Lim, Nanding Sena, Byron Valenzuela, Boy Valino, Ana Vergel and Rick De Villa.
“Festival” is their first exhibition this year and fourth in a series since the UP Centennial Artists was formed as a group in June last year during the yearlong celebration of the University of the Philippines’ 100th anniversary. The series began with “100 Years/100 Nudes” in June 2008, followed by a multi-themed exhibit in November, and culminated with a mother-and-child exhibition in December at the Trade Hall of the Gateway Mall. The current show features 66 artworks done by 35 artists.
The continuing series is organized by UP Centennial Artist Romy Carlos as a project of the UP Alumni Association headed by Gari Tiongco and Ponciano E. Rivera Jr., in cooperation with fellow UP alumnus, businessman Jorge Araneta, proprietor of the Araneta Center in Quezon City.
