Curators talk about contemporary art abroad at Lopez Museum
MANILA, Philippines - Lopez Memorial Museum, in cooperation with Art Cabinet Philippines, features Melbourne-based curator Jeff Khan in a talk on his role as artistic director of Next Wave, a multidisciplinary festival with 400 Australian and international artists. 2008 Singapore Biennale curator Joselina Cruz participates as reactor sharing innovations and developments in the recent biennale-themed Wonder and the current Philippine art scene.
Jeff Khan was curatorial advisor for Rapt!, an exchange project between Australia and Japan. He was communications manager at Gertrude Contemporary Art Spaces, held positions at the Perth Institute of Contemporary Arts and the John Curtin Gallery, and undertook a six month internship at the Solomon R. Guggenheim Museum, New York. He has curated and developed exhibitions, publications, performances and special events with galleries and museums, performance spaces, artist-run initiatives, and unconventional spaces such as nightclubs, laneways and public spaces of varying description.
Joselina Cruz is an independent curator currently working between Manila and Singapore. She was formerly a curator at the Singapore Art Museum and at the Lopez Memorial Museum. She has curated numerous exhibitions and writes essays, reviews and criticism for catalogues, newspapers and magazines. She took graduate studies in art history at the University of the Philippines and holds an MA in Curating and Commissioning Contemporary Art from the Royal College of Art (RCA), London, UK.
This is presented with Art Cabinet Philippines (www.artcabinetphilippines.com), an emerging visual arts organization that envisions the participation of Filipino visual artists in critical exhibitions and interactions and their achievement of international artistic acclaim.
The talk is scheduled on Friday, May 22 from 2 to 4 p.m. at the Lopez Memorial Museum. As slots are limited, reservations are required. The Lopez Memorial Museum is at the ground floor, Benpres Building, Exchange Road corner Meralco Avenue, Pasig City.
