Mark Meily's 'Baler' at Alliance Française de Manille

MANILA, Philippines - Alliance Française de Manille, VIVA Films & Bida Productions announce the showing of Baler at the online auditorium of Alliance Française, 209, Nicanor Garcia St., Bel-Air II, Makati City. The film will be followed by a talk with the director Mark Meily and cinema critic Max Tessier.

Every Wednesday evening, Alliance Française de Manille welcomes cinema enthusiasts with a selection of the latest French and Filipino films. Screenings are free of charge and open to everyone.

Baler — which won Best Director, Best Actress, Best Cinematography and Best Screenplay at the 2008 Metro Manila Film Festival — is a tale of an overwhelming love of a young Filipina named Feliza Reyes (Anne Curtis) and Celso Resurrecion (Jericho Rosales), a Spanish-Filipino soldier, set in the backdrop of 1898 wartime action between a 57-man Rifle Battalion of the Spanish military and the Filipino forces, more popularly known as the Siege of Baler.
