Maela Smith at The Crucible Gallery

MANILA, Philippines - Milagros “Maela” Liwanag Jose-Smith showcases her tinatik  works in “Pag-ibig Pagmamahal” on view until March 22 at The Crucible Gallery, fourth floor, SM Megamall A, Mandaluyong City.

Tinatik, which means “a drop of color art,” is a resist-process technique, which Smith pioneered.

Travel photography workshop

 The Travel Rewards Club offers Travel Photography Workshops for 2009 with award-winning photographers George Tapan, Wig Tysmans, Jay Javier, and Gutsy Tuason.

There will be 12 workshops this year and each one will feature a major tourism destination.

The schedules are: March 13 to 16 in Batanes; March 20 to 23 in Bohol; April 3 to 6 in Boracay; April 9 to 12 in Puerto Princesa; April 17 to 20 in Batanes; April 24 to 27 in Bicol; May 1 to 4 in Camiguin, Cagayan de Oro City. The workshops will also be held in El Nido, Bacolod City, and Anilao in May; Tubbataha in September; and Apo Reef in November.

Starting fee is US$750 or P33,000 net per person/workshop. The fee covers airfare, accommodations, meals, island tours, park entrance, and workshop fees.

The works will be showcased in a photo exhibit.

‘Ani ng Sining’ at One Workshop Gallery

‘Manila Sound’ at Kaida Art Gallery

Koji Onaka and Noell El Farol present landscape photographic images that convey their different sensitivities in “Manila Sound” which opens on March 22 at Kaida Gallery, second floor, GFO Bldg., 122 Kamuning Rd., QC. The show runs until April 2.

Onaka creates large-scale theatrical panoramic photos while El Farol shows small slots of time and history.

Concurrent with the exhibition, Japanese sound artist Seido Toshiyuki transformed the photographs of Onaka and El Farol into cards and produced a recorded sound art using the city noises of Manila titled “Manila Box.”

Wrapped like a gift box, “Manila Box” includes 25 photographs each of Onaka and El Farol.
