St. Cecilia's Concert at St. Scholastica's
The 2008 St. Cecilia’s Concert will be held on Nov. 28, 7 p.m., in St. Cecilia’s Hall of St. Scholastica’s College, Leon Guinto.
The St. Cecilia’s Concert, a time honored tradition in St. Scholastica, began on Nov. 22, 1923. Held yearly on the feast of the Patroness of Music, Sr. Baptista Battig endeavored to make these concerts enrich the musical life of the community while promoting music and the musicians trained, nurtured and graduated by the school.
This year’s concert also commemorates the bicentennial of St. Paul in the performance of the Paulus Oratorio by F. Mendelssohn. Lourdes Hermo conducts the St. Scholastica’s Chorale, the Ateneo Glee Club and the Manila Symphony Orchestra. Featured soloists are baritone Jonaf del Fierro, soprano Camille Lopez Molina, and tenor Pablo Molina.
Arturo Molina, violinist and resident conductor of the Manila Symphony Orchestra premieres Ottorino Respighi’s Sonata in B Minor. Pianist Greg Zuniega is the assisting artist.
The St. Scholastica’s Guitar Ensemble with the Guitar Friends will perform Telemann’s Baroque Concerto, Lecuona’s Andalucia, Andrew York’s Lotus Eaters and Dirae-on.
