National Artist Arturo Luz mounts an exhibition organized by The Crucible from Nov. 14 to 30 at the SM Art Center, fourth floor, SM Megamall A, Mandaluyong City. There will be a birthday cocktail at the Art Center on Nov. 20, 6 p.m.
“Arturo Luz 2008” features recent paintings and metal sculptures.
Luz is known for the minimalist, geometric abstracts alluding to the modern virtues of competence, order and elegance that evoke a universal reality and mirrors an aspiration of Asian modernity.
For the first time, Luz’s sculptures and paintings are featured together in one show. In fact, 2008 is a year that turns out to be one of his most creative, productive and inspired. It is also a year where the National Artist explored new medium, materials, subjects, drawings, designs and even colors.
Luz’s sculptures in mild steel metal plates with modern colors like black, white, yellow and red finish all pay homage to contemporary Spanish artists (and friends of Luz) that belonged to the group called the Escuela de Madrid. They are Fernando Zobel, Gerardo Rueda, Antoni Tapies, Eduardo Chillida, Eusebio Sempere, Luis Feito, Cesar Marique, Sesshu Toyo and Gustavo Torner.
Luz will also have an exhibit at The Crucible Gallery in SM Megamall from Nov. 25 to Dec. 7.
