Pasig has a home for the arts

Tagpuan, Pagyabong ng Sining sa Pasig, the title of an art exhibit marking the 428th Araw ng Pasig aptly reflects the vision of the city museum where people are empowered through frequent interaction with the arts.

It is the first major event showcasing the cultural heritage of Pasig, a place that has continually hosted artistic talents.

Not too long ago, National Artists Fernando Amorsolo and Botong Francisco frequented Pasig to do portraits and paint its sylvan landscape. These masters interacted with local artists like Gregorio Coching, Cenon Rivera, Nemesio Dimanli, Federico Estrada, Mar Sta. Ana and Nol Lozada, to name a few.

Through time, a number of art groups have been organized to maintain these interactions and further enrich the spirit of the Pasig art scene. Today, the city’s new breed of artists are also beginning to carve their respective niches in the city’s cultural heritage. Aside from showcasing the works of old masters, Tagpuan also celebrates Pasig’s new and innovative talents.

Tagpuan is expected to open the doors for the resurrection Pasig as a haven for art and artists, a glory which it had basked in sometime in the middle of the last century. In addition, it will promote contemporary art as well as spawn the emergence of art-related industries. The Pasig City Museum is located at Plaza Rizal, Pasig City.
