MANILA, Philippines – The Metro Manila Concert Orchestra (MMCO), Asia’s emerging modern orchestra, will stage the third concert of its 15th Crystal Anniversary Concert Season on Jan. 8, 7:30 p.m., at the Cultural Center of the Philippines Little Theater. The concert, which will be under the baton of composer-conductor Josefino Chino Toledo, is for the benefit of the Down Syndrome Association of the Philippines.
Dubbed The Enchanting Ravel and Rodrigo, the concert features veteran pianist Cristine Coyiuto — known in local music circles as the “poetess of the piano” — who will perform with MMCO the Maurice Ravel Piano Concerto in G major. Her daughter Caitlin Coyiuto, a rising star-flute soloist, will play Joaquin Rodrigo’s Fantasia para un gentilhombre.
Other MMCO concerts to be held at the CCP Little Theater are The Amazing Brahms featuring Brahms Concerto No. 1 to be played by New York-based virtuoso pianist Jose Artemio “Archie” Panganiban III on Feb. 5; and The Magnificent Rachmaninoff, featuring Berlin-based virtuoso pianist Dr. Abelardo Galang II, who will perform one of the grandest concerti of the century — the Rachmaninoff Concerto No. 3 — on June 10.
