The human being’s aim for perfection always necessitates resolute will. In achieving beautiful, unblemished skin, for example, conscious effort is factored in. Even those blessed with good genes are required to take good care of their skin.
To be flawless, however, is to transcend physical attributes of having soft, velvety skin that radiates. To be flawless is to have an intimate understanding with the self that a blemish is a perfect opportunity to celebrate, love and pamper the self.
What does it mean to be flawless?
“It’s about being confident,” succinctly says veteran actress Gloria Romero, an epitome of classic Filipina beauty. Sixty years of being in the entertainment industry has earned Romero the distinction and authority to be credible.
“It means to be everything that someone wishes for,” says Lorna Tolentino. Starting early at seven in show business, Lorna has been exposed to the kliegs. “I’m now 53. So, I have been in the movie and TV industry for 46 years now.” Despite the probable wear-and-tear result of her job to her skin, LT’s complexion has remained supple.
“To be flawless means accepting and loving yourself despite your flaws. That way, people won’t be able to put you down,” explains Barbie Forteza, a young actress who has put her mettle to good use since she started acting seven years ago.
“Aside from being confident, to be flawless also means to be happy with yourself by bringing out the best in you,” admits Enzo Pineda, a debonair celebrity from GMA-7. “Anybody can be flawless. They just have to believe in themselves.”
“To be flawless is to know your assets and highlight them. You should know, accept and embrace your flaws or insecurities and try to work on them,” says DJ Nina, who was thrust into celebrity status as a lady DJ in 2010.
“Being flawless to me does not always mean being bereft of flaws, or being perfect. Despite our imperfections, it is using our God-given ability to maximize and work around our disabilities, shortcomings and flaws,” says Toni Saret, a fitness expert who served as one of the coaches in the TV reality show Biggest Loser: Pinoy Edition.
“It is about executing your way of life, in your own way, with your own style. If you’re happy with what you are doing, it will show on the outside and you will make effort in your appearance,” says Harry Morris, a marine biologist who also plays for the Philippine National Rugby Team.
Gloria Romero, Lorna Tolentino, Barbie Forteza, Enzo Pineda, DJ Nina, Toni Saret and Harry Moris are just a few of the ambassadors of Flawless, a most preferred aesthetic clinic in the country. With the company’s newest campaign, “I Choose Flawless,” these personalities tell the world why they choose the beauty brand to take care of their face, skin and body goals.
For these “influencers,” to be flawless means learning from their craft. And part of learning is taking good care of their talent — so they have something to keep for themselves, so they have something “flawless” to pass on to those who are willing to follow their footsteps.
“From being an actress, I have learned to be thankful, to have a lot of patience and to continue pursuing my passion. I am always motivated to portray my character with sincerity — that way I excel in my craft. Life has taught me to be patient, humble and forgiving,” says Gloria, who always feels 10 years younger every time she avails herself of soothing facial treatments.
“What have I learned from my craft? To love my work and the people I work with,” says Lorna, whose strength she derives from prayers. “My children, apo, family and friends motivate me to excel in my craft. Life is short, so do good, be positive, be happy always and love as much!”
For her part, Barbie says, “My passion to act motivates me to be the best I can be in my profession. I always challenge myself to try to be better than the last scene or project (I did). I really appreciate the people who recognize my effort to do good.” She says she’s happiest on her rest days and “cheat days” from her diet requirements.
“My craft has taught me that there is always something to learn because learning never stops. There is something new to discover every day,” says Enzo whose motivation to excel is “my family.” Because of his love for his family, he never gives up. “Even if you feel like the world is against you, keep pushing for your dreams.”
As a personality who influences the clubbing culture of Manila, DJ Nina makes it a requirement to “read people.” “No matter how good you are, if you can’t read people, like how they respond to music or to a certain song, your set will not be as good. You need to learn how to make people dance and have a good time.”
A flawless craft, according to Toni, is achieved by someone who has discipline, patience, consistency and resilience to keep on going when the going gets tough. “Each one of us has his or her own inner athlete. I was lucky to have tapped into it earlier in life given the discipline of dance, ballet and gymnastics at an early age. It is always the competitive spirit in me that makes me compete with myself. I always have to outdo my last performance.”
“I learned from my dad that keeping fit is keeping healthy — body, mind and soul,” says Harry, who has been playing international rugby for eight years now.
Even though their jobs expose them to harsh light, severe sun, extreme activities and working until the wee hours, these influencers are happy in their own skin. They continue to inspire other people because they are confident that they can. Their passion is the catalyst that keeps them going. It is the same passion that makes them all “Flawless.”
