Qatar Airways celebrates milestones
Qatar Airways recently hosted an appreciation dinner at The Peninsula Manila for its loyal flyers and friends from the travel industry, the diplomatic corps, media and business. The event also served as a send-off party for the airline’s outgoing Philippines country manager Abdallah Okasha, whose next assignment will be in Sudan.
Okasha — whose stint in the country is marked by Qatar Airways’ successful opening of its second gateway in the Philippines via Clark International Airport plus an increase in flight frequencies — is succeeded by Donald Ajuoga as interim country manager.
The state-owned flag carrier of Qatar ended the year strongly as it achieved a historic milestone when it welcomed the world’s very first Airbus A350 XWB (Xtra Wide Body) aircraft — giving Qatar Airways the distinction of being the only carrier in the world to operate every modern airliner in the Airbus family from the A320, A330, A340, to the A350 and the A380.
Qatar Airways, the global launch customer for the A350, disclosed that the aircraft is set to commence service on the Doha-Frankfurt route starting this January.
Not surprisingly, Qatar Airways was also voted as the “most liked” global airline on Facebook with eight million followers — increasing its fan base from the social media network by 2,560 percent in the last two years — underscoring its strong online engagement with fans and customers.
A high note during the dinner was a special raffle with two Economy tickets and two Business Class tickets to any destination in Europe — a gesture that the lucky winners definitely appreciated.
