Easy runway beauty trends
MANILA, Philippines - Runway beauty trends are not always relatable.
Thankfully, Spring/Summer 2014 was a bit more considerate with barely-there makeup, messy up-dos and textured hair, which are definitely up one’s alley to try out on a daily basis!
Stylists to the stars — makeup artist Robbie Piñera and hair guru Jing Monis — love these “easy looks of the season.†“The makeup trends are easy to replicate in real life,†says Robbie, “and, with a few modifications, can be worn by anyone.â€
Jing agrees, “The hairstyles are something you can do yourself, with just the right products.†Robbie and Jing, who will serve as mentors to the candidates of Miss Teen Philippines 2014 (pageant is on May 31, to be aired on TV5), are taking inspiration from Spring/Summer 2014’s top picks for their young mentees.
Here are some of their fave looks — looks that, most importantly, are the easiest to pull off.
Fresh makeup + loose locks
As seen at: Balmain, Alexander Wang, Diane von Fürstenberg, Calvin Klein, Ferragamo and Michael Kors.
Makeup — The runway versions are au naturel. To glam it up a notch, Robbie recommends going for a soft smoky eye using nudes (caramels, taupes, soft browns and golds) and lining the eyes with soft black or brown eye pencil. Pencils have a softer finish than liquid liners. Finish off with bronzer and a peach-pink lip shade.
Hair — Bedhead hair has never been sexier! To achieve texture and beach-inspired waves, use a curling wand (even a straight iron will work). Use light spray to hold. Even easier? Sleep with braided hair and wake up to lovely locks.
Pretty plaits + strong pout
As seen at: Giles, Alberta Ferretti, Rachel Zoe, J. JS Lee, Altuzarra, Prabal Gurung and Rag & Bone.
Makeup — It’s all about the lips. As much as orange was a dominant lip color on the Spring/Summer 2014 runways (i.e. Prabal Gurung and Rag & Bone), pink is more universally flattering on one’s skin tone and wardrobe.
Robbie recommends using the right shade of pink for your skin tone. Fair skin can get away with icy pinks, while morena skin looks best in pinks with warm, coral tones.
Hair — Braid your hair as per usual but keep everything loose, even messy. To create that disheveled “I-didn’t-even-try-but-I-actually-did†look, lightly tease the hair up before braiding, and then touch up after braiding.
