Day-to-night dressing

UPTOWN DOWNTOWN - Joanne Zapanta-Andrada - The Philippine Star

We have all been there — eight-hour grinds at the office with only minutes to prep from the board room to the cocktail hall.

Uptown/Downtown gives you handy tips on how to glam up in a flash!

1. Classic-cut clothes make it easy to dress up or down. Crease-free clothes are also excellent choices as they do not show any signs of stress throughout the day.

2. Accessorizing is key! By all means — pile up (mindfully) on the hardware. Swap your tiny pearl studs for lovely dangling earrings or add on a gold chain necklace.

3. Leave your shopping tote at the office in favor of a small clutch. Big bags are a cocktail no-no as it looks like you have brought your office work with you to the social event.

4. Meet the night with height! Now is the perfect time to slip on those strappy high heels! Make sure that you have a perfect pedicure to go with your chic look.

5. Never leave without refreshing and adding on to your makeup. Powder your nose, apply a darker shade of shadow on your eyes, retouch your blush and advance to a darker lip shade. And yes, it is at this time that you are given permission to have smoky eyes!

6. An up-do always gives a more polished look to any outfit. Sleek your hair into a low chignon and secure the strays with bobby pins or perhaps sweep your hair into a simple French twist.

7. A shawl is always handy as it brings elegance to outfits and comes in handy when the room temperature has been set to “slight chill” mode.

(All outfits featured are from Verso, available at Landmark Makati and TriNoma branches.)
