The gift of generosity
A thanksgiving dinner was organized by volunteers of the Taiwan Buddhist Tzu Chi Foundation in honor of all the people who supported the foundation in Manila. Leading the guests was Tzu Chi Foundation head of honorary board of trustees, Peru Consul General Francis Chua, who was joined by his wife Tanzania Consul Betty Chua.
A non-profit organization founded in 1966 by Dharma master Cheng Yen in the impoverished east coast of Taiwan, the Tzu Chi Foundation focuses on giving material aid and inspiring love and humanity in both the givers and receivers as its mission. The foundation dedicates itself in the field of charity, medicine, education, environmental protection, as well as the promotion of humanistic values and community volunteerism.
As a disaster response to Super Typhoon Yolanda, a total of $45 million was directly given to more than 60,000 families in devastated areas for relief, financial assistance, shelter repair, and economic livelihood.
Seen at the thanksgiving affair, held at the Mandarin Oriental Manila, were Sen. Teofisto “TG†Guingona III, Philippine Chamber of Commerce and Industry (PCCI) executive vice president Donald Dee, PCCI president Alfredo Yao, Tzu Chi Foundation executive director for global volunteers Stephen Huang, PCCI chairman emeritus and Tzu Chi Foundation Philippines CEO Alfred Li.

A lovely party for a lovely lady
An enjoyable evening was had by all at the recent birthday party of Paulina Mayorga, the lovely wife of outgoing Chilean Ambassador Roberto Mayorga.
Looking svelte in her red blouse and black slacks, Paulina was joined by her husband and children Ignacio, Roberto Jr. and Mariana in entertaining the guests at the elegant dinner event held at the ambassador’s residence in Makati City.
Spotted in the crowd of distinguished ambassadors and consuls were Rustan Commercial Corp. president Nedy Tantoco, Lopez Holdings Corp. chairman emeritus Oscar Lopez and wife Connie, McDonald’s Philippines founder and chairman George Yang, Stella and Jorge Araneta and La Isla magazine publisher and SK Techno Lube Corp. chairman Prof. Timmy Tan.
