MANILA, Philippines - Here comes the bride…
Host and radio DJ Andi Manzano walked down the aisle in the cool month of November in dreamy Baguio.
In a tropical climate, any makeup artist and hairstylist will tell you all the beauty precautions you must observe in order to maintain a fresh, bridal look from start to finish.
Now, that’s for warmer temperatures. How about brides who marry in cooler climates like Baguio or Tagaytay for example? This type of climate, too, offers its pros and cons, in the name of bridal beauty. So here’s what you need to know:
1. Cooler climates tend to have drier air, which dries up the skin so easily and rapidly. So, prior to makeup application, make sure to moisturize your face and neck then apply that same moisturizer on your lips. Some lip balms contain salicylic acid, which causes the skin on your lips to flake. This will worsen in dry air causing chapped lips. Try Celeteque Moisturizer.
2. Makeup tends to crack due to cold weather. So minimize using too much powder to set your foundation. The cold temperature will do the “natural setting†of your makeup for you. Just a light dusting is enough.
3. Colder climates can make the skin look dull and gloomy. Thoroughly mix a drop of luminizing primer like Smashbox Artificial Light in Flash to your liquid foundation, for a soft, radiant glow. Make sure not to mix in too much or the skin will look too shiny and oily.
4. No matter how chilly the weather may be, never let it show on your face! Any bride will always want a veil of warmth on her skin. Do a light dusting of bronzer or a peachy blush like Benefit in CORALista on the temples, cheekbones and chin with a big blush brush.
5. Creamy formulations work best in cooler climates as it helps your makeup from looking chalky. So opt for a cream blush like MAC Cream Colour Base in Virgin Isle so your bridal flush looks like it’s coming from within.
6. Photo-taking is constant and those wedding kisses are just as much. Best to opt for a creamy lip color that keeps lips supple enough to kiss and withstand the dry air.
7. Messy up-dos look modern, fresh and less stiff. This is perfect for outdoor weddings! Since your hairstyle is already “messy,†minimal touch-ups are needed.
8. It’s difficult to leave your hair down due to the wind and you’ll end up always having to keep your hair off your face. Closest thing to that is to do a messy, low-side ponytail. It’s young, fresh, modern and low-maintenance. Use hairspray and enough pins to keep style in place.
