Meeting with the 'Best Dressed'

- Johnny Litton - The Philippine Star

“Every good act is charity. A man’s true wealth hereafter is the good that he does in this world to his fellows.”  Moliere

Everything is running on schedule for a huge charity ball in September. Over afternoon tea at the upscale dining haven Society Lounge in Makati City, the chosen ladies, together with this year’s “Ambassadors for Life” of the 2012 Best Dressed Women of the Philippines, were presented to a select audience composed of the members of the 2012 Best Dressed organizing and selection committee and the board of the Philippine Cancer Society (PCS). Now on its ninth year, the glamorous awards ball was conceptualized in 2004 under the tutelage of Imelda Cojuangco to raise funds in behalf of the PCS’ cancer awareness programs affecting the impoverished sector of our society. Spearheading the annual fund-raising activity are PCS board chairman, Dr. Roberto “Bobby” Paterno and 2012 Best Dressed event chairperson Angola Consul Helen Ong. The 2012 Best Dressed Women awards ball is set on Sept. 26 at the Rizal Ballroom of the Makati Shangri-La hotel.

A despedida for a beloved diplomat

There was a whirlwind of farewell dinner parties held in honor of the much-loved outgoing Brazilian Ambassador Alcides Gastao Rostand Prates, who has learned to speak Filipino like a native! One such gathering was held at the posh residence of Israeli Ambassador Menashe Bar-On in Makati City. Among the distinguished guests that evening were Foreign Affairs Undersecretary for International and Economic Relations Laura del Rosario, German Ambassador Dr. Joachim Heidorn, Spanish Ambassador Jorge Domecq, Argentine Ambassador Joaquin Daniel Otero, Czech Republic Ambassador Josef Rychtar, Chilean Ambassador Roberto Mayorga Lorca and Mexican Ambassador Tomas Javier Calvillo Unna.

Good luck, Alcides, as you embark on a new chapter in your life. You will be missed.
