Woman of the Universe

Manila, Philippines - As married women get set to conquer the universe, Filipino women seek to stand at the forefront.

Mrs. Universe is an annual competition that emphasizes the beauty and honor of married women all over the world. What sets it apart from other “Mrs.” beauty pageants is its motto of being “against violence.” This year, the pageant is devoted to anti-violence against women and children and will be held in Rostov, Russia from Aug. 5 to 13.

Moira Farmas of Venezuela claimed the crown in the Mrs. Universe 2011. She is a lawyer by profession, has two sons, and works for a foundation that cares for abandoned children and single adults.

The pageant rules state that a candidate should be 25 to 45 years old, married and has her own career. She should also be involved with a significant cause for other people.

In preparation for the international pageant, and for the first time in the country, Mrs. Universe-Philippines is taking center stage. Besides featuring the beauty, intelligence and character of married Filipino women, the national pageant envisions itself to be a “nationwide force and a partner of choice within a national movement dedicated to ending violence.”

Witness the coronation of alluring wives and moms at the AFP Theater in Camp Aguinaldo, Quezon City on July 25. Pre-pageant and talent competition are set on July 22.

Mrs. Universe-Philippines 2012 is headed by Megi Savova, founder and owner of Mrs. Universe Ltd., and Hemilyn Escudero, Mutya ng Pilipinas 2005 finalist and president of Prestigious Management Specialist and Production Co.
