A meaningful concert
“There is nothing in the world so much like prayer as music is.” — William P. Merrill
Internationally-acclaimed pianist Cecile Licad was the star of a recently-held benefit concert at the Queen City of the South. The event was spearheaded by topnotch businessman Francis Onglatco and his charming wife, Joy, for the benefit of those affected by typhoon Sendong and the Negros earthquake.
The spectacular show took place at the majestic Grand Ballroom of the Marco Polo Plaza Cebu, where noteworthy guests enjoyed a classical barrage of Chopin and Liszt masterpieces. Seen at the concert were Chinese Consul General Zhang Weiguo and wife Chen Lianning.
It was truly another memorable performance by the exceptional pianist for a truly worthy cause. Cheers!
The right one at the right time
It pays to wait. That’s what lovebirds Franco Ongkingco and Nikki Chan did after the latter’s father made the rule: “No medical license, no marriage license.”
After Nikki finished at the top 10 of her internship batch, the two finally tied the knot at the Santuario de San Antonio Parish in Forbes Park, Makati City. Witnesses to the exchange of lifetime vows were the proud parents of the groom, Benny and Lyn Ongkingco of the famed Manila Embroidery Inc., and the bride’s parents, Ricky and Susan Chan. Bea Zobel Jr., Joel Uichico, Senators Bongbong Marcos and Loren Legarda, Belarus Consul Anne Marie Ablan, Melecio Cojuangco and First Life Financial Co. Inc. president and CEO Peter Coyiuto were among the eight pairs that stood as principal sponsors. A grand dinner reception followed at the Peninsula Manila Hotel. Romantic music and beautifully arranged fresh blooms marked the truly regal evening.
To Franco and Nikki, here’s to many years of blissful togetherness!
