Manila, Philippines - What’s one secret to the fresh good looks of some celebrities?
They are admired, imitated, appreciated and even glorified. In the morning, as soon as we wake up and turn on the television, we see their faces. On our way to school or office, we see them all smiles on huge billboards, effortlessly looking good, silently communicating to us a message that may not be heard but powerfully shakes us to the core. And admit it or not, most of the material things we possess, places we go to or services we avail ourselves of are influenced by the endorsement of these potentially powerful individuals called celebrities. Some people tend to believe that celebrities have a negative influence on us, pushing us to spend large amounts of money to achieve good looks, to live like a star or be seen in the places they frequent.
Dr. Emma Guererro, president and CEO of Bioessence, believes otherwise. Being the prime mover of one of the country’s largest chains of skin-care clinics, she believes that celebrities help us enormously, too. They lead us in making wise purchasing decisions by sharing with us their own personal testimonials about products they have already tested. And as far as purchasing decision is concerned, celebrities matter. So does their image.
Guererro started Bioessence in the early ‘90s, when skin-care clinics and spas were still practically unheard of. Like many others who were about to start a venture that was close to their heart, but with no guarantee to succeed, the doctor threw herself headlong on her business venture despite doubts. Many years have passed and the venture that once started as a four-bed clinic is already part of many Filipinos’ lifestyle. The adventurous and diligent doctor stressed that if she waited much longer before starting the venture, she would not have achieved the fulfillment that she is enjoying now and that is providing beauty and wellness at its fullest potential. Talk about starting early!
The business philosophy of Guererro clearly reflects on her choice of endorsers. When she decided on Iya and Nikki to be the faces of Bioessence, she was certain that she was not just banking on their pretty faces but on their image and disciplined lifestyle more importantly.

It pays to start early in taking care of your skin.
Two of the most popular stars of Philippine show business Iya Villania and Nikki Gil are now reaping the benefits of knowing the right skin care at an early age.
At a press conference held recently at the Bioessence branch on West Avenue, Quezon City, both Iya and Nikki shared that the demands of being public figures make it difficult for them to completely devote so much time on complicated treatments, that’s why they stick to the basics. Cutting down on carbohydrates and sugar, getting the right amount of sleep and washing their faces at night are some of their practices they have started early on. “Why wait till you age before you start taking care of yourself, when you can start now and delay the process of aging?” shares Iya.
But busy as they may seem, neither of them gets into bad eating habits and they engage in simple activities that are both pleasurable and helpful. “I go to the gym or play badminton or swim as often as my schedule would allow, at least three times a week. For my diet, I try to stay away from sugar and carbohydrates and have been eating a lot of vegetables, fruit and yogurt shakes these days. One thing I don’t sacrifice whether I’m busy with work or not is my skin-cleansing regimen. I will not go to bed, even if I’m dead-tired, without cleaning my face. A regular facial treatment or a trip to the spa works wonders for me,” says Nikki.
Both Iya and Nikki give credit to Bioessence after being chosen as the clinic’s endorsers.
Not yet in their thirties, yet seriously taking skin care to heart, Iya and Nikki will certainly enjoy the luxury of looking good even after years of being in the limelight. After all, they have the discipline and Bioessence to back them up. Like the doctor who started early and never delayed her decision to put up a skin-care business to serve everyone, both stars will definitely harvest what they have planted many years from now just like Dr. Guererro.
Now it can be told: it pays to be early.
