School's out, summer's in

MANILA, Philippines - While most students’ midsummer dream is to have the school vacation extended, 34-25-35 model and UP Los Baños student Gabrielle Marie Cabrera barely sees a border between school semesters and summer vacations in terms of fun she gets.

Statuesque Gab shares that one of her life’s greatest turning points was when she entered college. By living in a college dormitory, the second daughter of Aspire CEO Rodrigo Cabrera and Alabat Vice Mayor Nida Cabrera has learned to leave her comfort zone and be an independent and more mature individual. Her greatest achievement, so far, was when she recently organized an event for her academic organization, which turned out to be very successful. School challenged her personality and skills that she braved the Ms. Earth-Philippines 2011. After the pageant, she felt a pang of hunger for more success in life. She continued to explain, “Winning is not everything, but at the moment you do win, it will taste sweeter because you know you’ve been through a lot to get it.”

Every summer, she goes home to the scenic beaches of Alabat Island in Quezon. In celebrating the season, this Spanish-Filipino beauty-and-brains unveils her summer must-haves: “Refreshing, light-colored loose wears are bestsellers in my closet during summer. And I wouldn’t last a day without wearing a tanning lotion with a hint of SPF, especially when I’m at the beach. A tinted moisturizer and a lip balm are summer must-haves for me, as well.”
