Bold and Beautiful

Many modern women see jewelry now as an investment, more than an adornment.

In the Philippines, there are enough jewelry brands to cater to the entire style spectrum. From the traditional to the eccentric, the wide market is a showcase of sparkling gems and an overview of what luxury is now. Breaking the scene is a new diamond in the rough with grand alluring proportions in refinement — Joanique.

Joanique (the combination of the names of the designer’s two kids, Joaquin and Monique) is a far cry from simplicity and the ordinary. The severe luxe take on its collection reflects a no-minimalist appeal that gives you more reason to shine. The brand is prized for its use of uncommon precious stones such as emeralds, rubies, sapphires, moonstones, naturally colored diamonds and onyx set in a metal fusion of silver and gold. The exemplary use of faceted stones and rose cuts form a high level of creative excellence in their beautiful works of art. Inspired by travels and fascination with Middle Eastern and European designs, these flashy statements come in limited quantities. Joanique is an adventurous journey that’s upfront and goes beyond the conservative without going overboard. The brand identity is not only defined by the best quality materials but significantly an understanding of design and the beauty of uniqueness. There is a certain feel of boldness and bravery translated in their astounding one-of-a-kind creations.

Self-taught jewelry designer Malou Araneta Romero is no new face in the fashion industry. The former Close-Up model (remember the rock concert-themed commercial with the now famous Derek Ramsay) who has successfully worked in both local and international scenes, used to endorse coveted products in advertising campaigns and appear in the pages of Manila’s top glossies. After years of modeling, she knew that what she was doing wouldn’t last forever and took a course at the Philippine School of Interior Design (PSID). While in school, and a bit of modeling here and there, the artist started making jewelry on the side and selling them to family and friends. It’s been three years since then and six months ago, she decided to make her hobby into a business thus Joanique was created. Driven by her passion for fine jewelry, the designer is challenged to bring more style and affordability in the market.
