Assumption Old Girls' Day today
MANILA, Philippines - “Old Girls” is the fond nickname for Assumption High School alumnae. As this year’s host for Old Girls’ Day, Class ‘85 would like to invite all alumnae to this year’s Velada, which unfolds today at the Assumption Convent San Lorenzo Village compound. We have made arrangements to make this year a celebration of our “Assumption Together Community” theme. We would like our Old Girls to come home to the Assumption and spend a truly enjoyable day among friends and classmates, and the Assumption family we all grew up with.
Old Girls’ Day will start off with a Mass at 9:30 a.m. today, to be officiated by Fr. Robert Rivera, SJ at the Our Lady of the Assumption Chapel at the San Lorenzo campus. A buffet, featuring the famous Assumption Cottage pie, will follow at 11 a.m. at the Assumpta Court. The traditional mini-bazaar of merchandise produced by Assumption alumnae will give Old Girls a chance to perform their favorite task, shopping! At 1 p.m., the Emerald Jubilarians will conduct a tour of the Assumption Museum (free of charge). And at 3 p.m., the main Velada show, directed by Floy Quintos, starring the various Jubilarians, will kick off.
Teachers’ Day, celebrated last Oct. 9, served as the prelude to Old Girls’ Day. Members of the Class ‘85 of Assumption High School was happy to fete their teachers in a grand fashion.
After the buffet dinner, the ceremony was opened with a champagne toast by Dr. Geraldine Mayor to our teachers, and a poem, written by Cindy Lanuza, was read by Chiquita Ramos. There were games and singing all throughout the night. Despite their reputation for being naughty and non-conforming students during their high school years, the members of Class ‘85 showered their teachers with presents to show them, that after all, their teaching, and their presence in our formative years, are much appreciated.
If Teachers’ Day is an indication of how Class ‘85 celebrates events, Old Girls’ Day will be a blast.
