Mothers on Dutti
MANILA, Philippines - She is a sister, a daughter, a friend, a successful model or maybe even an unassailable businesswoman. She can be all of the above. But first and foremost, she is a mother. Massimo Dutti celebrates every mom’s exceptional character, as the light of the family and a resolute pillar to every home.
Braving a fast-paced society with changing perceptions, moms like Annette Coronel and Ruby Gan manage to stand tall and proud with numerous achievements under their belts. As single mothers, they conquer their own set of trials with unbelievable grace and ease.
“How is it being a single mom?” Answered with a truthful smile, Ruby Gan enthuses, “Liberating.” With her personal and work schedule mostly revolving around her two sons, Ruby indeed has her hands full. From her famed stores Myth and Schu, to her fitness training and active lifestyle, she already feels happy and content. “If you are insinuating that I might be missing something, I’m not,” she continues. Her dynamic choice of career propels her to different responsibilities that keep her going. And in the midst of her obligations, she is still able to find time for herself. “For you to have balance, you have to first learn how to take care of yourself.” She emphasizes how lucky she is that time spent with her sons feels like Mother’s Day every day. “My sons are the kind of children who are not difficult to raise. I am able to trust them and in return, I am given the assurance that they can take care of themselves,” says Ruby. And her key to finding that right balance is her flexibility. Sashaying through her day in her staple shorts and statement heels, she is prepared to face her everyday ordeals.
A prominent face of her time, Annette Coronel, on the other hand, still remains a true beauty. Among the pioneer Filipina models who have set the standards of the profession, she continues to be an exemplar. Now a marketing and PR consultant, Annette is also into sports fishing. “It is hard but at the same time, you get used to it,” says Annette on being a single parent to her three children. Annette and her three children celebrate simple joys by just staying at home, watching their favorite movies and giving in to their food cravings. Mother’s Day for them is more on being together no matter how simple the celebration may be. Annette continues to breeze through every day looking chic even just in her comfy jeans and a men’s polo shirt.
