Racing your kids right
MANILA, Philippines – There is no other happy, fulfilling and satisfying moment for a father than sharing a common passion with his own child. Much more, when he is extending the role of being a dad to a team of other kids and teenagers pursuing the same dream of producing the country’s Formula 1 racer.
Karting is undeniably a family sporting event. On and off the racetrack, parents support and enable the racers to pursue their sport, and for others, their dream in life.
Chito Benito is managing a team of ten young kart racers under the Ready 2 Race (R2R) Team, which competes internationally.
For him, the satisfaction of the role comes from his 14-year-old son, Rafael “Roby” Benito.
“I see a talent in my kid and I want him to pursue that. What drives me in backing Roby is my dream (of becoming a racer), which wasn’t pursued,” explained Chito.
Philippine’s Ready 2 Race marked a tough race against foreign counterparts after bagging prizes at the 2009 Asian Karting Open Championship at the recently held Kartodromo de Coloane Circuit in Macau.
Ready 2 Race’s Juha Turalba placed 2nd at the 125 senior open category.
Joey Orduna (13) and Matthew Solomon (13), also from Read2Race, placed 4th and 5th respectively in the 125 junior open category.
Other AKOC races are set on July 18-19 at the Carmona Circuit Philippines; Aug. 15-16 in Indonesia; Oct. 10-11 back in Macau and Nov. 7-8 in Thailand .
