A classic reinvention
The little black dress, the safari jacket, trousers and ballet shoes. These are the classics that have continued to define — and redefine — one’s ever changing notion of chic. With the change of each season, or even the coming of the New Year, we likewise witness the reworking of style staples such as the smart knee-length skirts, sleek A-line dresses, utilitarian jackets, coats and tops.
While without doubt visual effect and sheer theatrics make for an amazing show on the runways, the more versatile and well thought out pieces are the ones that continuously evolve to suit the most current of trends. Take for example the jacket. The countless permutations, taken from various world inspirations such as the Japanese kimono, showcase the many creative takes one can take in donning a timeless piece. Similarly, your versatile skirt may come in several silhouettes to go with just about any fashion temperament — daring, conventional or a little of both.
In the same manner that one subscribes to what is considered timeless, the more contemporary choice will surely take into account the level of duality that each piece has to offer. Viseversa’s Rina Go shares of her most delectable collection, “For the independent working woman, it connotes duality in her life. She’s both a mom and a boss; strong yet vulnerable; works but still has a social life; classic and contemporary; sexy but not cheap.” With that in mind, Viseversa, since its inception in the late ‘80s, has continued to cater to the irony and paradigm that best define the modern woman.
As with previous collections, Viseversa has established itself in the local retail industry as a brand that puts great emphasis on what is wearable, multifunctional and yet of-the-moment.
“The collection is thematic with colors and pieces that continue to dictate a mix-and-match claim,” explains Rina. Utilizing a general palette of intense jewel tones such as sapphire, ruby or topaz, each silhouette and detail is perfectly balanced out by the label’s solid color blocks. The dynamic designer elaborates, “I maintain a classic mood, yet I use architectural details every now and then. For this collection, I also made use of Oriental expressions like Nehru collars and kimono sleeves. My design is very linear and straight. It will always have a very classic line marked by a twist either in the collar, sleeve or color combination. It’s not about body clothes but more of mind clothes that focus on detail and silhouette.” The result is a fascinating orchestra of classics merged with newfangled ideas that create texture, drama and of course a whole new take on reinvention.
