Everybody dance now!

-

All roads will lead today to Araneta Coliseum as the Skechers Streetdance Battle stages the biggest, toughest and hottest final leg of the dance competition.

Now on its fourth year, the streetdance battle continues to be the ultimate battle ground for the best dance groups in the country.

The dance battle began last September as more than 100 dance groups from high schools and universities danced and awed the public. After six explosive elimination legs, only 25 groups are left standing.

In front of thousands of supporters and fans, 12 finalists from the high school level and 13 from the collegiate level will vie for P100,000 prize and the bragging rights of being named the country’s best dance crew.

High schools rekindle rivalry on the dance floor

This year’s Final Battle features an age-old rivalry between the Greens and Blues. Yes, they don’t just fight on the basketball court, but also on the dance floor. Ateneo de Manila High School’s (AHS) Indak has been joining the competition since it started, but it’s only this year that La Salle Greenhills’ (LSGH) Airforce has decided to get in the game.

The Skechers Streetdance Battle gets even more exciting since defending High School champion Campus Image of St. Mark’s Institute is not keen on giving up its title, even as it sees LSGH as one of the top contenders this year.

To complete the dance battle are the high-flying streetdance powerhouse crews Dance X of Xavier School, Sayawatha of Miriam High School, and extremely talented crews from the School of the Holy Spirit, Claret School of Quezon City, School of St. Anthony, Hope Christian High School, Colegio de Sta. Rosa - Makati, Neptali Gonzales High School and St. Paul Pasig.

Top colleges face-off for streetdance glory

For three years in a row, the University of the Philippines (UP) Diliman’s Streetdance Club owned the dance battle field. Even their closest competitor, Mapua Institute of Technology Makati’s Dancecom, a perennial top three winner in the competition, admits that it’s a thrill to watch UP Diliman perform.

But this year, UP has decided to take a “sabbatical” to do ministry work. And so the race for the championship suddenly became wide-open.

Will Mapua Makati finally win the most prestigious streetdance title in the country? Not so fast. Danz Edge of St.Scholastica’s College delivered a sizzling hot performance and topped their elimination leg against a lot of strong teams.

To add fervor to the dance battle ground are the phenomenally talented crews from University of the Philippines Los Baños, Ateneo De Manila University, Colegio de San Juan de Letran-Manila, De La Salle University-Manila, University of the East, AMA Computer University-Quezon City, Our Lady of Fatima University, La Consolacion College-Manila, Philippine Maritime Institute, Technological Institute of the Philippines-Quezon City and Lyceum of the Philippines-Laguna.

A battle you shouldn’t miss

Indeed, the Skechers Streetdance Final Battle promises to be one heck of a show. Schools are throwing their full support for their respective crews in the country’s biggest dance competition. And at this point, it is anybody’s game.

And if the finalists don’t keep you on your toes (although we guarantee they will), our very own 2008 world hip hop champions –– the Philippine All Stars –– sure will. Grab your tickets now, coz the Skechers Streetdance Final Battle is an event you definitely wouldn’t wanna miss.

The Skechers Streetdance Battle 4 is co-presented by ETC and Skechers Time, supported by Fit N Right, in cooperation with SM Supermalls, with media partners Candy and Seventeen Magazine, Fudge Magazine, Manila Bulletin, and is conceptualized and organized by Brainbox Inc.
