Look alluring on your big day!

UPTOWN  DOWNTOWN  - Joanne Zapanta-Andrada -

Whether it is a wedding, a reunion or a special date, every woman wants to be picture-perfect for her special day. During this spotlight moment, you want to look like yourself — just more alluring, vibrant and fresh. Ace makeup artist and Bed Head spokesperson Eric Maningat shares his top tips for helping you create a beautiful look that you will treasure.

Tip 1: Less is more

For a day where you are the center of attention, always remember that everyone wants to see you, not a stranger, in a gown. If you don’t normally wear much (or any) makeup, you probably should continue with this practice.

The makeup that you do use should be good for flash photography. Stick with foundations that have a yellow undertone, as these will create a warm and healthy appearance in the photographs that are taken that night. You might also look into a good bronzing powder to warm your skin tone. Apply bronzing powder with a natural bristle brush; lightly apply color to areas of the face that the sun naturally warms. Your forehead, the high curve of your cheeks and the bridge of your nose are the best places. But if you’re naturally pale, you might want to apply a very light dusting over your neck and chest for a more even tone.

Tip 2: Consult the experts

Not all of us have the budget to hire a makeup artist to transform our regular appearance into something amazing. Not to worry — there are trained experts right behind the counter of many of your department stores who are available for free consults and makeovers. Most cosmetic companies now offer consultations for free and they will show you really great techniques and insider tricks. These consultations are usually performed by a professional makeup artist, so you can glide right through the process on your big day.

Tip 3: Pimple panic

If you get a pimple on the day, don’t panic. The first thing to do is stop announcing it to the world! The less attention to it, the less people will notice. Dab on a little yellow concealer and finish off with powder. And forget about it!

If you get allergies, stick to a powder shadow, rather than a cream and keep away from reddish browns or pinks.

Tip 4: Pay lip service!

Neutral and pale lip colors can look washed out in photographs, so choose a lipstick that’s one to two shades brighter than you’d normally wear. Pinks, roses and plums are great choices for brides. To make lip color last longer, line and fill your lips with a lip pencil before applying your lipstick.
