Sacred Feminine

MULTIPLE CHOICE - Luis Espiritu Jr. -

The trend in fashion today is all about diversity. In the recent Fall-Winter ‘07 collections, global style offers a multitude of chic interpretations. Standouts were Balenciaga’s urban multi-cultural warriors, Marc Jacobs’ ‘30s-cum-’70s chic bourgeois, Prada’s mod-futuristic take on fabrication, Olivier Theyskens’ sporty romantic debut at Nina Ricci, Dior’s wild spin on opulence and Lanvin’s homage to Martin Margiela’s shoulder detailing. Though the parade in forecasts seems endless, only a handful leaves an impact that is noticed by style-setters, fashion gurus and editors, icons and the likes. One of the most notable from the recent collections is famed fashion label, Gucci. After the reign of Tom Ford, the brand’s current creative director, Frida Giannini, is finally taking a fresh spin on the look of modern luxury.

This season, Gucci makes a comeback statement that’s all about empowering women. The look presents the power of feminism in various style forms. Inspired by the ‘30s and ‘40s (as seen in most of the A/W ‘07 collections), much emphasis was given to high waists and fashion’s current center of attention –– the shoulder. There is a sense of refinement, focus on shape and a great deal on vintage dressmaking that takes the house to a new level of “chicness.” The subtle presence of the updated S & M look adds assertive style appeal that’s stirring up to more promising and fashion-forward directions. Gucci presents empowering covered-up silhouettes that create a statement of chic strong feminine-masculine appeal unfolding at the forefront of today’s fashion.
