Sheer innocence
What women would give to turn back time and be in their teen years again... to look and be as youthful and as innocent. To have that fresh young skin again would be like a deja vu.
Teens can look as natural and bare as possible simply because they can get away with it. Most teens have great healthy skin. If you have perfect healthy skin then all you need to do is to make sure your eyebrows are well groomed. Make sure you have no facial hair visible. If you have, then please remove it. A bare teen face looks perfect and neat with less facial hair. Every time I am asked to do teen makeup, the first thing that I do is make sure they have two eyebrows. No unibrows, please — and this goes for the boys, too. The first thing that I do is I remove the hair growing on the line of the nose. That “space” is meant to be bare. There are supposed to be two eyebrows; the hair that grows on that middle area is usually thin and not as obvious but removing it will make you look very neat. Then, “clean” — meaning remove — the hair around each eyebrow starting from the inner part going out. You don’t have to “shape” your eyebrows, you just have to make sure that any excess or messy looking hair strands are removed. After cleaning your eyebrows, make sure that you do not have hair around your mouth. I have to stress this part because this, too, is very important. Girls are not meant to have mustaches so please try to endure the pain in removing them. It’s not as painful as you think and it won’t grow back thick. If you are sensitive to pain, get a cube of ice and numb the messy area first before you start plucking. Girls, trust me on this. What boy would like a girl with a mustache? It is such a waste looking at pretty faces when these pretty girls have a mustache! It is so wrong.
After making sure that there is no more excess hair growing on your face, clean your face and step back, it’s a new and improved you. You will look fabulously “different.” This is all you need — to look and feel neat and clean. You will look well-put-together without any makeup on. If you feel like, or if you are allowed to wear makeup, then all you need is a sheer pink-colored blush and lipgloss and you’re all set to go. A sheer texture will add a nice healthy glow on your cheeks. Using sheer blush will make you look very natural and fresh even without any lipstick on. A pink gloss will create nice natural looking lips. You don’t need loud colors on your face. Let your natural beauty shine.
If you have acne problems or blackheads, then don’t worry too much because this stage is a normal part of puberty. And mind you, acne will worsen with your late night chatting. Make sure to get enough sleep. If you have too many late nights, your skin will get worse. This is the right time to start going to a dermatologist to treat your skin problems.
Sporting a “bare” look starts with a clean and neat face. Makeup techniques are learned and perfected to copy and imitate your youth and freshness. So always remember that less is more.
Don’t rush to grow up. What are you running after? Or better yet, whom are you running after? Avoid looking too mature. Heavy makeup is just not for the teens. Use colors that will enhance your natural beauty. Enjoy and embrace your childhood and have fun. Take it easy and try not to be aggressive especially when it comes to boys. Don’t be too daring especially with friends around. Showing off is not cool at all. Give everyone a chance to get to know the real you. Don’t get too stressed out with peer pressure or with boys. Heartaches are part of life, part of growing up and a step to maturity. Take it from the grown-ups, later on in life, you will look back and say, “My mom was right after all.”
You can’t turn back time. Take life a step at a time. Enjoy your youth, have all the fun you can have with your friends and with your family. Look as natural and as neat as you can and celebrate your innocence.
