Monique Lhuillier: Fashion Superstar
March 18, 2007 | 12:00am
Vogue loves Monique Lhuillier. So does Elle, In Style, Harpers Bazaar, Town and Country, O, Martha Stewart and WWD. In fact, Monique Lhuillier’s reputation has reached such stellar heights that everyone who is anyone wants a piece of her. Superstar singers and actresses such as Nicole Kidman, Marcia Cross, Teri Hatcher, Carmen Electra, Reese Witherspoon, Angelina Jolie, Jessica Alba, Jessica Simpson, Eva Longoria, Mischka Barton, Sarah Jessica Parker, Zhang Ziyi, Christina Aguilera, Emmy Possum, Ashley Judd and Sharon Stone have proudly worn their Lhuillier creations to various awards and gatherings. Britney Spears and Alicia Silverstone chose the petite Cebuana as their wedding gown designer.
Along with her husband Tom Bugbee, Monique founded her couture company in 1996 with the launch of her first bridal collection. In 2002, the ready-to-wear and evening wear division was launched. To date, Monique’s creations are available in over 140 stores throughout the world including prestigious retail establishments like Bergdorf Goodman, Neiman Marcus, Saks Fifth Avenue and Nordstrom. Complete collections can be found in her flagship salons in Beverly Hills and Minneapolis. In April 2006, Monique unveiled her New York showroom near 58th and 5th and in June of the same year, Lhuillier, along with Mattel, unveiled the limited edition Monique Lhuillier Bride Barbie doll.
In spite of all these achievements (and fashion awards), Monique maintains a simple and down-to-earth disposition that has endeared her to friends, family and employees alike. Her role as a mother (to Jack Nicholas) has added a new dimension to her life. "Monique is a success not just because she has done so well in the fashion realm," shares her mother, the ever-beautiful Amparito Lhuillier. "She is a success because she has maintained her values as a patient, respectful, industrious, trustworthy and kind person." Spoken like a true mother!
Monique Lhuillier has indeed made her mom and her country proud!
