November 23, 2003 | 12:00am
The time has come for an intimate affair with Tabu!
On Nov. 26, the NBC Tent will become the venue for Tabu Swimwears second anniversary. Be prepared as top models and TV personalities take your mind on a sensuous, sexy and liberating trip around the world! Itll be a well-deserved holiday for the modern woman of today! It will be a night of complete pampering and partying!
Be proud of the woman youve become! The Filipina has definitely come a long way. Nowadays, she is a powerful part of the work force. Her competence and efficiency have found given her seats in high places. She has become the banker, lawyer, doctor, business proprietor and even the President. As if those werent enough, she has managed to look and feel her utmost best. That tropical tan. The long, flowy hair. That exotic charm. What better way to show off a womans beauty than to do so in all her splendor? Hence, Tabu Swimwears quest to celebrate the wonder of the modern woman.
Established in 2001 by Amanda Griffin and Isabel Engwa, Tabu Swimwear was borne out of a desire to present the hardworking Filipina woman with options to enjoy her countrys islands.
Although Tabu is a relative newcomer in the retail scene, it has earned a reputation as one of (if not) the best places to purchase quality swimwear in the Philippines. Tabu Swimwear accommodates a womans beach needs. Its merchandise is primarily swimwear exclusively imported from Australia. It also offers other products like towels and beach bags.
This year, Tabu expanded its product line to include several high-profile Australian brands. It has also added Bonds, a preeminent underwear manufacturer in Australia. Another brand that has been introduced this year is the exquisite line of Peter Lang jewelry. Peter Lang is often featured in Vogue, Harpers Bazaar and Elle in Australia and the US. Tabu has also added Fooch Accessories to the fold. This company specializes in cute, kitschy affordable accessories everyone can enjoy.
Tabu swimwear carries 12 different Australian brands and will diversify its merchandise next year. The consistent favorites are Tigerlily, Seafolly, Baku, Hallican Boodie and Bonds. All these from a little wish seed planted in one womans head.
Amanda Griffin, who epitomizes the modern Filipina, has managed to juggle three to four jobs at the same time. And just like her, so has Tabu Swimwears 2004 image models. As part of its second anniversary, Tabu has launched these new faces. Each woman is intelligent, ambitious, a go-getter and beautiful inside and out. They are:
Fil-Austrian MTB host Cindy Kurleto who is making waves in the local entertainment scene;
PMAP president and STAR columnist Rissa Samson. A true-blue Filipina beauty, Rissa is PMAPs president as well as a mother and wife;
Sarah Tan, Channel [V] VJ, a mix of Malaysian, Chinese and British descent. Sarah is one of Channel [V]s hottest VJs; and
Christina Garcia, supermodel/interior designer, renowned model. She is a New York resident who has opened her own interior design company.
Recently, two qualified women were hired and will be the public faces of Tabu Swimwear when Isabel leaves for further studies in Europe. Marketing manager Tina Vazquez-Prada is being primed to take over Isabels responsibilities while Gina Choy will assist Amanda in marketing Tabu swimwear.
