A fashion rebellion
November 2, 2003 | 12:00am
Theres a revolution this season! Fashion calls for an "uprising" against stereotypes and a "call to arms" for a tribute to creative urban personalities.
Armed with a passion for creation, DKNY stages the biggest fashion rebellion this season, applauding the radical minds of writers, painters and musicians as inspiration. Its Fall 2003 comes to Manila with a three-themed collection which explores the eccentric and limitless boundaries of an artist by mixing textures and patterns, traditional fabrications with sharp yet snug silhouettes. All these establish a rich nostalgic detailing that tell a unique story or layers to create poetry in threads.
The DKNY silhouette is inspired by the style/substance of the "mutiny" of one of fashions greatest rebels, the Beatniks. The silhouette takes the relaxed-but-slim hack, rendering the ironic textures of pinstripes and gray flannels for a bold statement for the DKNY man. The DKNY woman, on the other hand, is radiant in blank canvases of satin, boucle and chiffon with a vibrant palette of chalk pastels. The colors become bright splashes in traditional textured feel of herringbone, lace, silk and knits interpreted as graphic interplays of sharp tailoring and a relaxed silhouette that provides the dramatic backdrop. Beads and rhinestones display hints of surrealism in the understated elegance of the collection turned into masterpieces with the abstract feel of mohair coats and ocelot-print rabbit wraps.
DKNY salutes the brilliant "soldiers" of creation and challenges every man and womans artistic side as they gear up for a more diverse and individualistic season.
With a collection that is a canvas of eccentric wonders and fitting masterpieces, DKNY lets you march to the tune of your own artistic style.
