‘The most outrageous thing I did for love’

For the Duke of Windsor, love meant abdicating his throne so he could marry the divorcee Wallis Simpson. For Juliet, it meant taking an elixir that would render her in a lifeless state until her Romeo returned.
For the average Maria de la Cruz, it might mean stepping out of her heels and foregoing makeup to impress the object of her affections. Or for Juan de la Cruz, it might mean simply having to drive his potential mother-in-law to the grocery store!
Whatever the case may be, we asked several celebrities about the most outrageous thing they did for love and romance.
This is what they had to say:
Dina Bonnevie,TV and movie actress: ‘I walked under the rain top-naked in the dark!’
Lisa Macuja-Elizalde, Principal dancer and head, Ballet Manila: ‘In 1997, I flew back to Manila for a single day in the middle of a Ballet Manila US tour because my husband Freddie wanted his wife back!’
Robbie Herrera, VP Smith-Bell/business development consultant: ‘I gave up my job to accompany my very ill girlfriend to the US. I also stayed there for some time to take care of her!’
Keren Pascual, Publicist and events organizer: ‘I took a quick, side trip to Canada to surprise my special someone. It was that person’s birthday!’
Dinky Soliman, DSWD Secretary: ‘I made love in a Puerto Galera cove with boats passing at a distance.’
Tina Maristela-Ocampo, Fashion icon and entrepreneur: ‘I turned down a relationship proposal from a gorgeous suitor while my boyfriend was watching. It made him feel like a king. It felt like the right thing to do then but after a week, however, I felt foolish.’
Laura Verallo de Bertotto, General manager, VMV Hypoallergenics: ‘I skipped out of New York to be with the man I loved in Argentina. I had barely any money and the prospects of finding a job there was slim. The relationship was shaky at that time so going there was really a leap of faith. But I managed to stay for six months and we ended up getting married shortly after that–so you can say that the effort was worth it!’
Ito Curata, Fashion designer: ‘That has to be the time I bought my significant other a big car. It was so huge that it would not fit in the garage. He was worth it though, and so was the car!’
Joy Zapanta, VMV model/ child advocate: ‘I went to Divisoria in the rain to look for supplies for the establishment of the guy I used to date. While I was there, I stepped on some dog poop and could not get it off my shoes until I got back home!’
Raul Francisco, Owner of T-Bags and Voyage: ‘I got married! But I woke up soon after!’
Ingrid Go, Freelance writer, former news producer of Star TV Hong Kong: ‘I quit my job up as news producer of Star TV Hong Kong to be with my then boyfriend. We are now happily married!’
