Sveiki (Hello), Lithuania!

With a history dating back 10,000 years and a population of less than three million, Lithuania is known as the global leader of the laser industry.

During the recent celebration of the 35th anniversary of the restoration of Independence of Lithuania and 150th birth anniversary of renowned Lithuanian artist and composer Mikalojus Konstantinas Ciurlionis, Ambassador Ricardas Slepavisius and Consul Junie Vildsius Peña hosted a vin d’honneur and concert with First Lady Liza Araneta Marcos as the guest of honor at the Samsung Performing Arts Theater, with the Philippine Philharmonic Orchestra performing one of the most famous Ciurlionis works, Miške.

“Ciurlionis’ significant influence on preserving Lithuania’s national identity, which laid the foundation for the restoration of the independent State of Lithuania, as well as his lasting impact on both Lithuanian and European art, is deeply appreciated,” Ambassador Slepavisius shared. “Presenting his legacy in the Philippines for the first time is a special feeling — the Philippines is an important like-minded partner of Lithuania, so it is a joy to finally be able to present one of the symbols of Lithuanian culture here. Ciurlionis is an artist of extraordinary talent and spirit, who was able to weave not only melody into sound, but also stories, dreams, visions, and the essence of Lithuanian nature. He was a composer, painter, photographer, writer and active participant in Lithuanian cultural life.”
