MANILA, Philippines — If you are what you eat, then what you feel could also impact the future you.

As something that can affect what you feel and your mood, scent has a transformative power, said perfumer Renato Lopena Jr.

If you want to manifest love, Lopena advised using a sensual fragrance.

“You want something that is strong, that is sweet, sensual,” he said in an interview with Philstar.com.

“For success, you want something, a fragrance that when you wear it, it will start your day as if you want to seize the moment, you want to take the opportunity for success, and these are usually notes of fresh notes, citrus, and then some aquatic notes.”

To attract power, he suggested using something “very heavy, very amber-y, a little bit spicy.”

“And then for harmony, it's like the smell of being one with nature, because it's very woody. It's very personal, so it's like you feel the harmony between you, the nature, the fragrance,” the perfumer explained.

These words and the feelings they imbibe — love, harmony, success and power — are the exact names and inspirations behind the new collection of new fragrance label Alchemy.

The brand, according to Happy Lacson-Mabulay, Business Unit Director of Descorp Inc., the company behind Alchemy, takes pride of its meticulously crafted formulations, which blend all-natural, botanical ingredients with pH-balancing elements to create scents that are not only long-lasting up to 12 hours, but also therapeutic.

These fragrances, the brand said in a statement, promise an immersive sensory experience, combining aromatherapy benefits with the magic of scent to leave a lasting impression. These scents are now available nationwide at Watsons, SM Beauty stores, and online.

Designed to foster affection, compassion, and intimacy, the Love scent is a romantic floral blend of jasmine, orange blossom, and roses, with warm undertones of cocoa, vanilla, citrus, and amber.

A bold, energizing mix of fruity notes, spices, and a touch of vanilla and musk, Power is crafted to inspire confidence and strength.

A calming fusion of jasmine and sandalwood, Harmony offers a balanced and soothing fragrance that promotes inner peace and equilibrium.

A fresh, invigorating aquatic scent with vibrant notes of lime, lemon, bergamot, and mandarin orange, the Success perfume was designed to encourage focus, clarity, and a sense of achievement.

“We believe in the transformative power of scent,” Lacson-Mabulay added in the same statement. “Alchemy is more than a fragrance — it’s a ritual, a way to center yourself, and a reminder of the energy and intentions you carry throughout the day.”

To maximize scents’ potential in helping shape one’s mood, Lopena has some pieces of advice.

“To wear fragrances, you just have to apply it on pulse points like your pulse, your the back of your ears, neck, because those areas will make the fragrance more long-lasting,” he said.

“I don't really believe in layering because I believe that fragrances created for us are already beautiful that you don't need to do anything, but if you want to, some people do layering because they want to have like a very distinct unique scent. So if they do layering, they have to find like a perfect balance. Like for example, for Alchemy fragrance, you can layer Harmony, which is very woody, very bass heavy to something with Success, which has the aquatic feel, so it's like you're making a new fragrance that is aquatic and woody at the same time.”

Aromatherapy and perfume, he clarified, are “two different worlds.”

“Aromatherapy is focused on the aroma and the therapeutic benefits that you get from the aroma, whereas perfumery is just to really make you smell good,” he affirmed. “Usually, aromatherapies are essential oils like lavender essential oil, whereas a perfume is like a mix of natural ingredients and synthetics.”

To fully enjoy the benefits of aromatherapy, he recommended using it as a blend in the form of rollers, applying it on your bed sheets, as a candle or using a diffuser.
