Casual Filipiniana was the requested attire for this season’s TernoCon. Native materials and fabrics were evident in the various Filipiniana — from the mundane woven banig, Ilocano and Visayan weaves all the way to the callado jusi and finely embroidered piña paired with denims or multi-colored skirts; from the mini to the maxi lengths.
The three-part showstopper was inspired by Luzon, Visayas and Mindanao represented by Jaggy Glarino, Jojie Lloren and Cary Santiago; each one showing the strengths of their respective regions.
Modern versions of the terno had cropped tops with many of the current beauty queens stunning in their fashion choices by a new batch of designers. Beautiful vintage pieces were visible on Marivic Vazquez wearing her Patis Tesoro sleeveless piña top paired with plaid tribal pants; Monique Siguion Reyna in her mother Armida Siguion Reyna’s Aawitan Kita baro’t saya; and Alelee Andanar’s callado top from her mom’s closet, proving that a classic can and should be worn forever.
