Put yourself first. Self-care and self-love are not kaartehan (vanity).
These self-affirmations were the common theme and message at the recently held Apollo wellness camp event at the Tivoli Royale clubhouse.
Three prominent digital creators invited to the event said that it’s okay to care for yourself and, in looking good, you don’t have to spend so much.
Fashion and lifestyle content creator Janescka Margaux, choreographer Irah Casim, veteran broadcaster Mama Colleen and radio jock Cris Tindera attest that there are value-for-money and affordable skincare products that will help you feel beautiful.
They shared their beauty and wellness journey, and how they’re able to sustain their social media accounts.
Casim broke into the social-media scene as the dancing Bicolana on TikTok. Soon her followers grew and brand partnerships came in. Margaux, on the other hand, started her digital platform when she was still in college.
The three shared that having good skin is an advantage when posting content because no amount of filters will hide dry skin. Their followers easily notice if they have acne or skin breakouts.
“The skin is important, kasi kahit ano filter mo, it won’t work; people will still notice, especially on TikTok,” Mama Colleen said at the event. “I struggle with dry skin, so I try to moisturize and you know it doesn’t have to be costly.”
Mama Colleen, Casim and Margaux swear by the magic of petroleum jelly.
“I put it all over my body before I sleep and when I wake up, my skin is super-smooth,” Casim said.
“I usually deal with dry skin, that’s why I always use the Apollo Petroleum Jelly,” Margaux said. “It helps me feel more confident whenever I post OOTD content on social media.”
“Self-confidence is very important,” Margaux added. “As long as you see yourself as beautiful, go with that and go with what works for you.”
Mama Colleen, who has two kids, said it’s very important for moms to take care of themselves because they can’t give from an empty cup. “Mothers are superheroes,” she said. “They can wear many hats. But even if they can accomplish anything and do anything for the family, it is important they take care of themselves. Self-care and self-love are not kaartehan.”
Meanwhile, skincare expert Dr. Michelle Manuel, who also graced the event, gave tips on how to have beautiful skin.
She underscored the importance of moisturizing because dryness will accelerate skin aging. It is also important to wear sunscreen as protection against the harmful rays of the sun. Nothing ages the skin faster than the sun.
Dr. Manuel also advised people to limit bath time and said that hot water can remove the natural oils of your skin. She also advised against using strong soaps, especially those with the ingredient Triclosan, because it will strip the natural oils from your skin.
She also advised moisturizing the skin three minutes after getting out of the shower to avoid dryness. A combination of cream and petroleum jelly will do wonders for the skin, she said.
Dr. Manuel swears by vitamin C, which is a must in collagen production and a vital ingredient in making the skin healthy and youthful. Good sources of natural vitamin C include broccoli and bell pepper.
“And lastly, be happy, because grabe magpatanda ang stress,” Dr. Manuel said.
The Apollo brand shares the love for self-care and its mission of providing affordable yet high-quality skincare products.
