K-pop group NewJeans reveals new name
MANILA, Philippines — The embattled K-pop girl group NewJeans has a new name and is planning to release new music in an upcoming festival in Hong Kong.
Hanni, one of the members of the group, talked to CNN where she disclosed that they will now be called NJZ.
A few days ago, the group in another a Instagram handle called on their fans to help them with a new name.
The group's new Instagram handle (@njz_official) features new photos inspired by their new group name.
Hanni told CNN that they will perform under their new name for the first time at the ComplexCon Hong Kong festival in March. They will also release a new song in the said event.
“We are working a lot to resolve everything so that we can go… back to normal,” Hanni told CNN in a phone interview.
The five-member K-pop group is currently in a legal dispute with its record label Ador, a subsidiary of Hybe, the agency that handles popular K-pop group BTS. Its members are Minji, Hanni, Danielle, Haerin and Hyein.
The group announced its decision to leave Ador in November over “mistreatment” claim.
NewJeans visited the country last December 2023 where they scored major awards at the 2023 Asia Artist Awards held for the first time in the Philippines at the Philippine Arena in Bulacan.
