Dennis Montealto, Mandaluyong City: Congratulations! You have made your counry and your people proud. Keep up the fighting spirit.
Diony Yap, Bacolod City: Congratulations and good luck, kabayan. Sana ganon din kabilis ma-TKO ang mga napakasinungaling na magnanakaw sa ating inang bayan.
You make Filipinos proud
Robert Young Jr., San Juan: Congratulations and thank you, Nonito, for your victory over Montiel. You have made Filipinos proud once more. Amidst the shame the country is facing as a result of officials getting involved in multi-billion corruption, you, together with Pacquiao, Charice, and others are there to redeem us. Mabuhay kayo.
Louella Brown, Baguio City: For Nonito Donaire Jr.: The Filipino nation is so proud of you for your impressive TKO victory over Fernando Montiel. Praise the Lord!
June Deoferio, Cavite: Congratulations to you and more victories to come. This is another victory for our country and for Filipino people around the world.
Adrian Catral, Quezon City: Your latest winning in boxing has helped greatly in lifting up the spirits of most, if not all, Filipinos. Thank you very much, Nonito, and mabuhay ka!
Armando Tavera, Las Piñas City: You and Manny Pacquiao make your country and your fellow Filipinos proud. You two are the real gems of the Filipino race in the world of boxing. Congrats!
Editha Tuason Angeles, Antipolo City: Thank you...
Alexander Raquepo, Ilocos Sur: Thank God we have Nonito bringing honor to our country in the midst of the shame we are now experiencing because of some greedy generals. God bless you, Nonito, and may your tribe increase.
Jose Fabello Jr., Cagayan de Oro City: Congratulations! Your victory is one step up the many steps towards greatness. The Filipino people are with you every step of the way. Move with confidence, Nonito.
Elizabeth Oximer, Negros Occidental: No big deal. Pinoy yata siya. Salamat sa karangalan.
Romeo Caubat, Masbate: His victory makes the Philippines a proud nation once again. Long live Donaire!
Martin de Venecia, Irvine, California: Congratulations! Once again you have made us proud to be a Filipino!
Keep it up
Deo Durante, Camarines Sur: As a sports enthusiast, I know Donaire has a long way to go. The speed is there, and so are the timing and power of his punches. But athletes must always possess discipline, whether it be in the food they eat, sleeping habits, and the kind of lifestyle they maintain. Donaire should maintain discipline so that he can also be one of the greatest in the history of world boxing.
Lucas Madamba, Laguna: You deserve your victory. Hope you continue to bring honor to our country.
Carmela Ramento, Cagayan de Oro City: Attaboy, Nonito, you have done it again. Everyone felt the moments of your sweet victory. Keep punching those KOs for the country. It’s a great feeling!
Ruben Viray, Antipolo City: This kid Nonito Donaire is simply fantastic. He achieved a stunning victory in less than five minutes inside the ring and became the darling of the boxing world. I believe this is the start in the making of another great Filipino champion. May the force be with you, my boy, and may you continue to shine too for the delight of all boxing enthusiasts. Kudos.
Alfie Babarin Amontos, Cebu: Keep inspiring us!
Sharpshooter
Manuel Abejero, Pangasinan: Congratulations, Nonito! You were like a sharpshooter aiming at a fast-moving target and you got him! Awesome. Those boisterous and arrogant Mexicans should think hard and train hard whenever they face a Filipino boxer. Mabuhay ka, Nonito! You made us proud again!
A dangerous boxer
Desuel Pardo, Mandaluyong City: Behind his clean cut and boyish look, Nonito Donaire Jr. is a tough and dangerous scientific boxer. Montiel must have feared that if the bout goes the distance, he may lose on points as he could hardly find his mark, while Donaire was jabbing effectively. He took the bait of Donaire by opening his defense, thinking he could land a powerful right hook to Donaire’s jaw but he proved that his eagerness was a mistake, because that slight opportunity gave way to the left hook of Donaire that sent Montiel to his doom. Whoever it will be, Donaire’s next challenger must be patient and scientific, too, to last the distance and hope for a win by decision. That is, however, wishful thinking as Donaire is now on top of his career and will still go further to compensate the misfortunes the Philippines has been getting the past decade.
Cris Rivera, Rizal: “The Filipino Flash” shouldn’t be underestimated. A flash of a left hook floored the game Mexican champion for good. Hail Donaire, Filipino.
Germi Sison, Cabanatuan City: Aside from his power and speed, Nonito kept his focus on the movement of Montiel, waiting for a chance to bait him while avoiding getting hit. Montiel bit his bait, and that gave Donaire the opening for a knockout left hook that sent him to the canvass groggily. Both of his hands have knockout power that his opponent must be extra careful in getting into him. I wonder, however, if he can absorb powerful punches that are necessary in baiting. Unlike Manny Pacquiao, who usually gives his opponent breathing space after knocking him down and deciding to continue, Nonito attacked Montiel as soon as the referee signaled to proceed, though Montiel was still dazed. I pray that Nonito can get used to taking hard punches and to show that he is a gentleman boxer.
Rudy Tagimacruz, Malaybalay City, Bukidnon: Donaire was a bullet train that rammed Montiel down the rail track, shaking hard, and appeared like a drunk finding his way home.
Do your best
Rose Leobrera, Manila: Just do your best in your every fight, no matter how much skills you have and you may have practiced your utmost, when inside the ring, iba pag natiyempuhan ka, and congratulations!
Don’t let success go to your head
Jim Veneracion, Naga City: I would advise Donaire that, like Pacquiao, he should stay humble, with his feet firmly on the ground. He must try to share his good fortune with others.
Jun Montebon, Parañaque City: Medyo mayabang, pero may sinasabi.
Ruel Bautista, Laguna: Congratulations. Try to be meek in victory. Unlike the Pac-man, who’s presently a bigger star than you are, you have a tendency to be boastful.
Lydia Reyes, Bataan: Be like Manny Pacquiao. Be humble and God-loving.
Jesus Mendoza, Pangasinan: Nonito Donaire reminds me of Sugar Ray Leonard, whose style he resembles. I hope he stays humble and not let popularity and money go to his head.
Choy Zablan, Manila: In time of victory, remain humble.
Erwin Espinoza, Pangasinan: Be a respectful and humble son to every Pinoy adoring you as an international boxer of high-caliber.Do not waste your time and talent in a ‘showbiz’ career. The “war of the TV networks” will just eat you up. Stay where your talent and skills could be needed most in boxing and physical fitness programs of aspiring young athletes. Congratulations, Nonito, our new world bantamweight champ!
Cesar Concha, Metro Manila: I hope you’ll fix the problem with your family, particularly with your own father. Remove the hatred from your heart and instead, embrace humility so that God will bless you in your every fight. Be humble like Manny at h’wag magpaka-showbiz masyado!
Honor your parents
J.R. Mondonedo Jr., Parañaque City: Congratulations! I hope you will be the next Manny Pacquiao to bring excitement into the sport of boxing. Remember, never forget your own family, especially your parents, because without them, you wouldn’t be in this world. They will be on your side no matter what, especially when your career in boxing is over. Meanwhile, enjoy the moment and always thank God for your blessings.
Felix Ramento, USA: As the new Filipino hero, the country awaits you for a victory celebration. But be sure your father tags along. Let him savor the glory of the moment, too.
Don’t go into politics
Elpidio Que, Vigan: Nonito, we are proud of you. You are another Pacquiao in the making. You are now a celebrity in your own right. Keep up the good work, man, but put not in your head the phrase, “The world is yours.” We shall be praying for you in each ring battle that you will have, that your opponent will be pummeled to kiss the earth. Don’t let yourself be exploited, especially by politicians who specialize in riding on the popularity of celebrities like yourself. Also, don’t enter the arena of politics. It is not the arena for which the Almighty gifted you with your boxing skills.
See you in 2022
Elmo Cruz, Manila: Nonito may give up his US citizenship and reclaim Philippine citizenship so he can join Manny Pacquiao in Congress to help President Aquino restore sanity and decency to our morally- and spiritually-devastated Philippines. If Manny decides to run for President in 2022, Nonito can be his Vice-President. That will be another phenomenon to be added to our people’s power.
The next Manny Pacquiao
Dino Monzon, Caloocan City: Congrats on your quick victory over Montiel, Filipino Flash! Keep practicing, remain humble and focused, and you can be the next Manny Pacquiao.
Ella Arenas, Pangasinan: You know, I really don’t watch boxing and UFC because it’s a brutal sport. Imagine the damage that the sport does. It’s funny, but I watch only after they have declared who the winner is, and it’s got to be the Filipino bet. But for Donaire, he is fantastic. He is a Pacquiao in the making. I hope he maintains his boxing career with flying colors. Be humble.
Pitts Hizon, Pampanga: To Donito: Keep it up; you are another Manny Pacquiao in the making!
Nestor Chan, Metro Manila: Congratulations! You bring honor to our country. You will be the next Pacquiao.
Better even than Pacquiao
Ferdinand Rafer, Cavite: He might not be a champion in seven weight divisions, but he is better than Pacquiao. He is a complete fighter. Congratulations, Nonito! More belts to come.
Here’s to more victories
Raymar Gurrea, Bacolod City: What a punch! You have excellently delivered the goods. I expect more challengers to line up to have a bout with you. Congratulations!
Miguelito Herrera, Cabanatuan City: Congratulations, you’re amazing, the whole country has a new hero. Looking forward to more victories in your next fights.
Boxers raise Filipino flag
Dr. Jose Balcanao, Benguet: Donaire’s victory is a testament that we are now establishing a tradition of boxing champs in the world. Boxing is a sport that has become our nation’s pride. Our government must support and protect the sport for all generations of boxers to come.
Louie Vallo, Pangasinan: You are awesome, you showed the world that Filipinos are great boxers.
Nescel Panes, Iloilo City: Hurray for all Filipinos here and abroad! Indeed, Donaire’s winning punch brought the country to its limelight again. We are indebted to all Filipino boxers who have brought honor and prestige to our country, like Donaire, Pacquiao, etc. Donaire’s victory will again open the doors of opportunity in discovering aspiring boxers in the future. Congratulations to our new world champion, Nonito Danaire. May you continue to raise the banner of our country in winning the succeeding fights that await you. Always remember to stay humble, prayerful and hopeful in your next encounters.
Better paycheck
Jed Reyes Tiongson, Pasig City: Hope you get a seven-figure paycheck on your next fight.
Shoutout
Ofeli Ibay, Pangasinan: Please advise the Board of Investments director never to give in to the seemingly rosy project of the Saudi Arabian firm to take over a tract of land in Mindanao for agriculture.
