Taking 100 megapixel shots of life
During the pandemic years, one of the things that most of us learned to live with and use to its full potential was the cellphone and all tech devices that had anything to do with communication. Truth to tell, if there is a “good thing” that came from the last three years, it was our ability to use technology for communication.
The cellphone became our constant companions because they were the way that we connected with family, work and everyone else in between.
And, as soon as telcos could develop new ways of seeing people through better cameras, they did exactly that. It comes as no surprise then that three years later, telcos are still working on the best camera phones that they can develop because beyond taking the best photos, taking videos to record moments of our lives and instantly share them have become the new normal way of doing things.
I recently attended the Oppo Reno8 T launch, where I saw and used the 100-megapixel portrait camera. The cellphone also comes with a cutting-edge fiberglass-leather design, 8GB RAM expandable by up to another 8GB, 256GB ROM and 48-Month Fluency Protection. The Oppo Reno8 T delivers all-around upgrades in a stylish device, which ensures incredible experiences in both camera and entertainment while maintaining smooth performance at all times.

Are the users of Oppo Mobile phones becoming younger, members of Gen Z? I asked. The folks at Oppo told me that the Oppo Reno Series is geared more towards young, urban, stylish people who enjoy photography and express themselves creatively.
Do people still use mobile phones for communication (texting and calling)? I asked further.
The young folks at Oppo told me that smartphones would never lose their functions of calling and texting; however, what technology allows us is to be able to do more than just that. And that is what the new generation of cellphone users is on the lookout for.
Gone are the days when the cellphone was used merely as a communication device. Today Oppo has seen to it that the Oppo Reno8 T is equipped to take the best photos ever.
Capture the world in detail
The Oppo Reno8 T is the first Reno series phone to include a 100MP Portrait Camera, which is featured alongside a 32MP Selfie Camera and a 2MP Microlens with 20x or 40x magnification.
With the 100MP Portrait Camera, users can take high-quality portraits with more clarity and detail while enjoying the freedom to crop and enlarge photos to reimagine their images.
The Microlens of the OPPO Reno8 T also enables users to capture surprising visual images usually hidden in plain sight through 40-times magnification, offering unprecedented access to microscopic photography capabilities.
A range of top-end imaging features such as AI Portrait Super Resolution, Bokeh Flare Portrait, Selfie HDR, AI Portrait Retouching, and Flash Snapshot are also included to empower users to capture the world fully through stunning, professional-quality portraits.
The Reno8 T runs on Oppo’s ColorOs 13, which makes the user experience seamless. It has Smart Always-On Display, which lets you conveniently access and manage entertainment without unlocking your screen and Five Grade Access Control, which lets you assign what apps can access your location, camera, microphone and more. The operating system is also designed to let you censor sensitive information found specifically in screenshots with Auto Pixelate to keep you safe and anonymous when sending information anywhere online.
Upgraded design with a premium texture
A phone that does not slide from your hand easily is always a good thing. The back cover’s Fiberglass-Leather Design in sunset orange does just that. The back case uses a new technique to enable the removal of plastic edging, resulting in a thinner and lighter cover than traditional leather-like battery covers. This creates a premium experience through a unified design brought by more rounded edges without sacrificing durability. The super-premium appearance is inspired by luxury leather goods, with a textured pattern that simulates the effect of leather stitching, using an embossing process that is being utilized for the first time on the Reno8 T.
The Midnight Black edition features a remodeled version of the Oppo Glow that gives the handset a silky-smooth touch. A decorative reflective ring has also been added to the camera module to create a shinier appearance that resembles stars twinkling in the depths of the universe. In addition, the upgraded Oppo Orbit Light provides eight different notification settings, which can be personalized with eight different colors.
The Reno8 T is also less weight in your hand, boasting an Ultra-Slim Body Design with Midnight Black-only 7.80mm thickness that weighs about 180 g, while the Sunset Orange weighs about 183 g and has a thickness of 7.85mm.
All-around smooth experience
Oppo has completely overhauled the performance of the Reno8 T and implemented multiple features to guarantee users a smoother experience for longer. Among these is the Oppo-developed Dynamic Computing Engine, which provides a smoother and more stable operating system to fundamentally improve user experience. Oppo Labs have specifically tested the Reno8 T for 48-Month Fluency Protection to ensure it maintains a high degree of operating fluency even after four years of use.
After learning all this about the Oppo Reno8 T at the launch, it was time to get snapping. I was able to get a few days with the Midnight Black Oppo Reno8 T. And, as camera-phones go, I was not disappointed. The photos are stunning and oh, so close up.
Yes, I did make a few calls and, as I always do, set up a screen saver and checked out the various ringtones and listened to some music. The Oppo Reno8 T did not disappoint.
But the photos are something else. I’ll post a few shots taken with it here.
