Tropical storm "Agaton" continues to intensify as it heads towards the southern-Bicol-Samar area.
At 4 p.m. yesterday, the center of "Agaton" was estimated at 1800000 kms. east northeast of Catarman, Northern Samar, or 260 kms. east of Legazpi City, with strongest sustained winds of 90 kph near the center and gustiness of up to 105 kph. It is expected to move west at 22 kph.
It was forecast to landfall near Legazpi City late last night, cross Albay and Marinduque, then move towards Mindoro-Batangas. Its maximum sustained winds are expected to exceed 100 kph upon landfall.
Public storm warning signal number three is now in effect over Albay, Sorsogon, Catanduanes, Northern Samar and Masbate. These areas will have rains and winds of more than 100 kph. Coastal waters will be very rough and extremely dangerous to all seacraft.
Public storm warning signal number two is in effect over Southern Quezon, Pollillo Islands, Camarines provinces, Marinduque, Romblon, and the rest of Samar, including Biliran island. These areas will have rains and winds of not more than 100 kph. Coastal waters will be rough to very rough and dangerous to small seacraft.
Public storm warning signal number one is in effect over the rest of Quezon, Laguna, Batangas, Cavite, Mindoro provinces, Lubang Island and Northern Palawan including Calamian Group, Cuyo Island, northern Panay, northern Negros, northern Cebu including Bantayan islands Leyte provinces, including Dinagat and Siargao Island. These areas will have rains and winds of not more than 60 kph. Coastal waters will be moderate to rough.
Residents of Southern Luzon and Eastern Visayas are advised to be alert against flashfloods and landslides.
