Policewoman not filing charges vs Honeylet

MANILA, Philippines — The policewoman hit with a cell phone during the arrest of former president Rodrigo Duterte on Tuesday is not pressing charges against Honeylet Avanceña.
In videos circulating online, Avanceña, Duterte’s common-law wife, was seen hitting one of the police officers during a standoff at Villamor Airbase in Pasay City.
Brig. Gen. Jean Fajardo, Philippine National Police (PNP) spokesperson, said the police officer opted not to file a case for direct assault.
“She said it was among the hazards of her job,” Fajardo said in Filipino during a phone interview yesterday.
The female officer, a member of the PNP-Special Action Force, suffered a lump on the head after the attack.
Fajardo said the policewoman would immediately return to work after she recuperates from her injury.
The PNP has shouldered the police officer’s medical expenses. She is also expected to receive a commendation from the police force.
