MANILA, Philippines — Overseas Filipino workers (OFWs) affected by massive wildfires in California have started to receive financial aid from the Department of Migrant Workers (DMW).

Four OFWs initially received $850 each from the Philippine government, Migrant Workers Undersecretary Felicitas Bay said.

Financial aid came from the DMW’s Agarang Kalinga at Saklolo para sa mga OFW na Nangangailangan Fund, according to the Migrant Workers Office in Los Angeles.

Based on reports, at least 28 people have died and over 200,000 evacuated amid wildfires that started early this month.

Among those who have lost their homes are top Hollywood stars.
