MANILA, Philippines — The Department of Education (DepEd) is calling for the responsible and ethical use of artificial intelligence (AI) in schools.

Undersecretary Fatima Lipp Panontongan, DepEd chief of staff, said the department remains committed to integrating AI and technology in education by collaborating with various EdTech companies.

“Let us champion the use of AI as a tool for empowerment, not replacement. Let us equip our youth with the wisdom to use it responsibly. Together, let us create a future where technology amplifies human potential rather than diminishes it,” Panontongan said.

The DepEd highlighted its partnership with Khan Academy through Khanmigo, an AI-powered educational assistant.

“We are heading in the right direction by embracing the power of EdTech to address common learning delivery challenges,” she said.

“It is our duty to ensure that the next generation – be it Gen Z, Alpha, Beta and beyond – is nurtured, informed and inspired,” she added.
