DMW: Aid ready for Pinoys affected by California wildfires
MANILA, Philippines — The Philippine government is extending assistance to over 100 Filipinos affected by the wildfires in Los Angeles, California.
Migrant Workers Secretary Hans Cacdac reported that there are 150 Filipinos who have been affected by the wildfires.
Cacdac noted that the affected Filipinos are permanent US residents and green card holders.
He said the Philippine Consulate in LA is assisting the 150 Filipinos and the Department of Migrant Workers (DMW) is ready to help.
“They (relief operations) do not fall under the jurisdictions of the DMW, but we are under a one-country team approach at our consulate in Los Angeles, and we fully support the efforts of our consul general there, and our Migrant Workers Office (MWO) is providing support to relief operations formed by the consulate,” Cacdac disclosed.
He said the DMW, through its MWO in Los Angeles, is actively monitoring the situation and ready to provide all the necessary assistance to OFWs who may be distressed or displaced by the unfortunate incident.
The MWO is also in coordination with the Filipino community in Los Angeles to ensure a swift and coordinated response in case help is needed.
The agency advised OFWs affected by the current windstorms and wildfires in California to contact the DMW-MWO in LA through its hotline or email address for immediate assistance.
