Pinoys affected by California wildfires climb to 191
MANILA, Philippines — Filipinos affected by raging and uncontained wildfires in Southern California have risen to 191, according to the Philippine consulate general in Los Angeles.
Consul General Adelio Angelito Cruz said they are monitoring the situation of the more than 400,000 Filipinos in Los Angeles County, with 25 percent living in the most affected areas.
“The affected so far is 191 in total and we expect the number to increase in the next few days,” Cruz said.
No Filipino was reported missing.
Cruz said affected Filipinos include several caregivers, who lost their jobs when the homes of their employers were destroyed by wildfires.
The Department of Foreign Affairs authorized the consulate to extend an emergency assistance of $200 each to Filipinos affected by the wildfires.
