MANILA, Philippines — Tropical Depression "Querubin" has weakened into a low-pressure area (LPA) as of 2 p.m. on Wednesday, December 18, but continues to threaten parts of the Philippines with heavy rainfall, PAGASA reported in its latest advisory.
As of 3 p.m., the weather system was located 220 kilometers east of Hinatuan, Surigao del Sur, or 275 kilometers east of Surigao City. Despite its weakened state, the system continues to pose significant risks to several regions.
Querubin is currently bringing cloudy skies with scattered rains and thunderstorms to Eastern Visayas, Caraga, and the Davao Region. PAGASA has warned of possible flash floods and landslides due to moderate to heavy rains, with intense downpours expected at times.
The weather disturbance's trough is also causing cloudy skies with scattered rains and thunderstorms across the rest of Visayas and Mindanao. Meanwhile, a shear line is affecting the Bicol Region, Quezon, Marinduque, Romblon, and Oriental Mindoro with scattered rains.
In Northern Philippines, the northeast monsoon has brought only cloudy skies and light rains over Cagayan Valley, Cordillera Administrative Region, and Aurora. — Cristina Chi
