MANILA, Philippines — Contrary to allegations of lavish holiday activities, the Philippine Health Insurance Corp. (PhilHealth) yesterday said it is complying with Malacañang’s directive to scale down Christmas celebrations.
Health reform advocate Tony Leachon on social media had accused the state health insurer of allocating P138 million for its Christmas party.
“It is unfortunate that he is misinformed. The breakdown of expenses posted by Dr. Leachon, which is not yet final, is intended for the 30th anniversary celebration of PhilHealth in 2025, a milestone year,” PhilHealth said.
On Nov. 25, PhilHealth issued an advisory ordering all offices to observe austerity measures in celebrating the holidays.
The management also ordered the cancellation of some activities and the donation of savings generated to communities affected by recent typhoons.
PhilHealth reminded Leachon to be more responsible and cautious before releasing statements that may mislead the public.
