PPA awaits completion of cruise port linking Boracay
MANILA, Philippines — The Philippine Ports Authority (PPA) looks forward to the completion of a cruise port in the province of Aklan that would give cruise passengers direct access to the world-famous Boracay Island.
According to PPA general manager Jay Daniel Santiago during the Kapihan sa Pantalan media forum, the new port would enable cruise ships to “directly dock at the port” without having to tender passengers in small boats to the island.
The Port of Alegria will also introduce cruise passengers to other tourist destinations in Aklan as well as in Panay Island like Iloilo, he added.
The establishment of more cruise ports across the country could help reach the target of 12 million foreign tourists a year that the Marcos administration has projected to achieve by the end of his term in 2028, said Santiago.
So far, the PPA has finished construction of the Port of Jubang that is near surfing destination Siargao Island.
The PPA has recognized cruise ports should contain tourist receiving areas that are “clean, comfortable, convenient and safe” upon arrival, Santiago said.
