Bacoor Assembly holiday declared
MANILA, Philippines — President Marcos has signed a measure declaring Aug. 1 of every year a special working holiday to commemorate the promulgation of the declaration of Philippine independence.
The special working holiday, to be known as Araw ng Paglalathala at Pagtatanyag ng Kasarinlan ng Pilipinas, commemorates the promulgation of the country’s independence during the Bacoor Assembly in Cavite on Aug. 1, 1898.
Republic Act 120731 or The Bacoor Assembly of 1898 Act was enacted last Oct. 7, a copy of the law posted yesterday on the Official Gazette showed. The declaration was ratified by the Malolos Congress as Acta Agosto Uno.
The law mandated cultural agencies led by the National Commission for Culture and the Arts to promote the historical significance of Aug. 1 and the event surrounding the Bacoor Assembly of 1898.
It also required the education department to develop and implement lesson plans that highlight the importance of the day and ensure that students are educated about its relevance.
Meanwhile, Marcos also signed six local laws, four of them hospital-related measures.
