Palace suspends classes, government work in Luzon today

“Upon the recommendation of the National Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Council relative to the continuous rains due to Kristine, and to aid in the rescue and relief operations, work in government offices and classes at all levels in Luzon are hereby suspended,” the Office of the Executive Secretary said.

MANILA, Philippines — Malacañang suspended classes and government work in Luzon today as Severe Tropical Storm Kristine is expected to bring heavy rains in the island.

“Upon the recommendation of the National Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Council relative to the continuous rains due to Kristine, and to aid in the rescue and relief operations, work in government offices and classes at all levels in Luzon are hereby suspended,” the Office of the Executive Secretary said.

Agencies whose functions involved the delivery of basic and health services, preparedness, disasters and calamity response or other vital services will continue with their operations.

The localized suspension of classes and work in government offices in other areas may be implemented by their respective local chief executives, the executive secretary’s office said.

The suspension of work for private offices was left to the discretion of their respective heads.
